Here it is Monday again! A new week - a fresh start. I love Mondays because I sit down and look at my list from last week - check off what was accomplished and add new stuff to do for this week. And what about you? How do you feel about Mondays? xo
New Engraved Wood Charms are here! You can find them at the Red Lead store in St. Louis or on our website - the charms are here.
Here is why we LOVE these new wood embellishments - You can glue them on your artwork, add a pin back for funky pins, or add a bail and a chain for a fun necklace. They are perfect left natural but it's very easy to add color with acrylic paints, Artisan Inks, or markers. There are 4 new charms - Be As A Bird, She Sings Sweet, Fly Away Home, and She Flew Wild and Free. The shapes are new for us too - Hexagons, Octagons, and House Shapes. The charms are made in the USA of excellent quality 1/8" natural wood. Oh! and they are on sale too! xo

The Shabby Chic Butterfly Necklace is made with one of our clear acrylic charms, a shabby chic brass butterfly, a scrabble tile charm, a sweet girl from one of our Paper Quilt collage sheets and beaded waxed linen. All of the supplies are at the Red Lead store in St. Louis and on our website.
Did you know that it is really easy to "shabby up" brass charms? I love acrylic paint! I try it on everything! We have a LOT of brass charms at the store - thousands of them. And I love them but when I want to add color to my charms acrylic paint is my first choice. You can use any color paint but for this jewelry project I used Antique White.
Here is how you paint brass charms:
All brass charms have an oily residue that must be removed before you paint the charms. I spray a little bit of glass cleaner on a paper towel and wipe off each charm. Let the charms dry completely. If you skip this step the paint will not adhere properly to the charms.
Paint the charms with acrylic paint straight out of the bottle - do not dilute with water. Make sure you completely cover the charms. Too much paint is better than too little. Let the charms dry overnight or at least for 4 hours.
Dampen a paper towel with water - barely damp. Rub off the paint a little at a time until you get the desired results. One last tip - If you want to add more color to the shabby chic charms - go ahead! Any color you love. Just paint over the white paint and let the charms dry for a few hours. xo
gathering stencils, papers, ink pad, sponge roller & a alphabet stamp set
1. Cut strips of paper about 1" wide x 6" in length. I used brightly colored small patterned papers and stenciled with permanent black ink. The black ink really pops against the bright papers. I think it would be fun to trim the edges with pinking or scallop scissors too.
2. Position your stencils on the strips of paper and secure the stencils with removable tape. Roll the black ink over the stencil several times to create a crisp black image. Carefully remove the tape and set the stenciled strips to the side for the ink to completely dry.
3. Trim the paper strips to fit the A2 card. Stamp words with the small alphabet set to fill in the words that are not stenciled.
All of the supplies to make this Dear Diary are at the Red Lead store in St. Louis and on our website. 60 small word stencils are here. I'm going to spend the afternoon stamping and stenciling more cards - what will you be making? xo
